Vandiver discusses his early life, including his rural upbringing, his family history, his childhood, his religious background and education, and the origins of his interest in politics. Vandiver talks about being elected mayor of Lavonia in 1945, Herman and Eugene Talmadge, his military career, his time at UGA, segregation, and being an aide to Herman Talmadge.
