Alonso Haro creció en Zacatecas, México, después de que regresó para los Estados Unidos en 1992, donde eventualmente se estableció en Athens, Georgia. Alonso Haro grew up in Zacatecas, Mexico, after which he moved back to the U.S. in 1992, where he eventually settled in Athens, Georgia. Haro worked in his father’s restaurant, Taqueria La Parrilla, where he is currently a co-owner. In this interview, he talks about his family, his father's inspiration for opening a restaurant, an employee-focused work culture, and the restaurant's relationship to its customers and the community.

Diana Fairbairn has lived in Athens since the early 90s and has had a substantial impact on the local scene of soul food. In this interview, Fairbairn talks about her introduction to food, her experience opening Five Star Day Cafe, and what she’s planning for the future after the COVID-19 pandemic. Fairbairn and her husband have two children, a son and a daughter, who Fairbairn is convinced will end up working in the food industry as they have.

Terry Bennett was born in Athens in 1968 and attended local schools until he graduated from Clarke County High School. After graduation, Bennett immediately went to work and eventually began work for Food for the Soul and, later, at the Sparrow’s Nest. In this interview, Bennett discusses what soul food means to him, his experiences with racism, and becoming a mentor to those he encounters in his work.
