Barbara Barnett was born in Athens, Georgia in 1950. Barnett is an active member of the Athens community who has dedicated her life to working with youth. In this interview she remembers her early life, growing up in Athens neighborhoods like Morristown and Brooklyn, and her experiences throughout the early days of integration in Clarke County. She also speaks on her program “Rites of Passage”, which serves Athens’ Black youth by teaching Black history and empowerment.

- Barnett's oldest sister left Athens in 1957, not 1952.
- Barnett's parents had six boys and four girls.
- In tenth grade, Barnett transferred to Athens High School, not Athens High Industrial.
